Weekly news letter- week ending 24th November 2017.

I start this week with sporting success, as across the Year groups, students have been in top form with impressive performances.  In Football, Year 11 boys have progressed in the Small Schools Trophy beating Shirebrook Academy and the Year 10 boys beat Casterton in basketball.  On to the Year 8 girls who beat KGGS convincingly in their Netball warm up match ahead of their semi-final next week.  Our girls have also been inspired as they were able to drop in to the England Women’s Football warm up session earlier this week and a small group are travelling to the West Midlands this evening with Miss Jones and Mrs Torr to watch the World Cup qualifier match against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Year 11 Internal Examinations have taken place this week and will continue into next week.  Thank you to those students who have arrived at the hall well prepared for these very important milestone examinations.

Letters will come home with Year 7 students today outlining the details including week allocations for the visits to the French centre  “Centre Des Etoiles” in the Spring.

Next week, all students will be involved in another PSHCE afternoon. Year 9, 10 and 11 will be watching a live performance of a play entitled Chelsea’s Choice.  The play, which has now been seen by hundreds of professionals and over 800,000 young people throughout the UK,  is followed by an actor facilitated post-show talk exploring the issues raised around child exploitation.   An internet safety presentation will be given to Year 7 and 8 students by staff from Bletchley Park – home of the WW2 Code Breakers and now the National Museum of Computing.  I hope that you will join with the staff at the academy in supporting the students to take away from these sessions the very important messages they deliver.
