Jewellery

Students may wear a watch. School rules allow for one set of studs to be worn in the ears but no jewellery is to be worn in the eyebrows, tongue, nose or any other body piercing. Therefore if students wish to have ears pierced they must arrange this at the beginning of the Summer holidays so that the wound has sufficient time to heal. Plasters may not be worn to cover earrings. If students disregard this they will be isolated from other students until they comply with the regulation.

No other jewellery is permitted due to health and safety issues and liability in case of loss.

Hairstyles

Hairstyles should not be extreme. Parents should consult, in advance with the Year Leader if they are unsure as to the suitability of a change of style. Hair must be cut no shorter than a grade 2, with no edges/lines. Hair must be of a natural colour, two tone hair with dipped dyed ends and unnatural hair colours, like blue, pink, lilac or green are not acceptable. The academy shall be the arbiter of the term ‘extreme’.

Make-up

For Health and Safety reasons false nails and nail polish are not permitted. Key Stage 3 students are not allowed to wear any make up, except in exceptional circumstances when light foundation will be permitted to disguise skin complaints. Key Stage 4 students are allowed to wear discrete make up. The academy shall be the arbiter of the term ‘discrete’.

These standards must be observed whenever the academy uniform is worn, including the journey to/from the academy and when on school visits.
